Chattahoochee Elementary School is a public elementary school in Chattahoochee, Florida, serving students from pre-kindergarten through grade 5 as part of the Gadsden County School District. The school is dedicated to providing a supportive learning environment with a focus on preparing students for success in middle school and beyond. Chattahoochee Elementary offers core academic instruction and enrichment opportunities—including a Gifted & Talented program and weekly art experiences through partnerships with local arts organizations—alongside activities like spelling bees and other school events that contribute to student growth and community engagement.

Elementary Playground Project Goals

Our project goals were to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging outdoor play environment for students and the school community. The installation of new commercial playground equipment and a swing set provide opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and imaginative play. The two shade structures help protect students from the sun, allowing for extended and more comfortable outdoor use throughout the year. The addition of four outdoor benches and picnic tables created welcoming spaces for rest, supervision, and outdoor learning activities. And to ensure long term durability and accessibility, the playground also features poured in place rubber matting. This low maintenance, impact absorbing surface enhances safety and provides an inclusive play area for children of all abilities.

Project Details and Features

This project featured the installation of the Barrington Ridge Play Playground and the Ketchum Play System, both designed in a vibrant blue and orange color scheme to create a cohesive and engaging play environment. We also added the Camp Walden Interactive Panels in matching orange and blue to encourage sensory and interactive play. A one bay two cantilever swing set complements the playground components, expanding opportunities for active recreation. Site amenities included four outdoor benches, one standard picnic table, and one ADA accessible picnic table to provide comfortable and inclusive seating options for students, staff, and visitors. To enhance comfort and visual appeal, two sun shade structures were installed to match the playground’s color theme: a 45′ x 28′ x 15′ Standard Hip Shade and a 30′ x 24′ x 10′ Hip Shade with Glide Elbows, both featuring blue fabric and orange poles. The play areas were surfaced with poured in place rubberised surfacing in a blue and black 50/50 mix for durability, safety, and accessibility, totaling 1,419 square feet under the Barrington system, 1,056 square feet under the swing set, and 572 square feet under the Ketchum system.
