Mid Florida Community Services, Inc. – Malloy Head Start, located in De Leon Springs, Florida, is an early childhood education center that serves eligible families through Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The program is designed to support young children’s growth and school readiness by providing a comprehensive, nurturing learning environment that often includes early education, developmental support, and family-focused services that can extend to areas like health, nutrition, and social support resources. As part of Mid Florida Community Services’ broader Head Start network, Malloy Head Start helps children build strong academic and social foundations while also partnering with families to promote long-term success.

Safety Surfacing Project Goals

Our project goals were to create a safer, more functional outdoor space for students by installing durable synthetic turf grass and a high quality shade structure at the school. The new turf provided a consistent, low maintenance surface for daily play, physical education, and school activities. The sun sail shade structure added the necessary sun protection and comfort, helping students and staff stay cool and protected during outdoor time. Together, these improvements will enhance usability year round and support a healthier, more enjoyable campus environment.

Shade System and Surfacing Project Details and Features

This project included the installation of a 20’ x 20’ x 8’ hip shade sail structure along with playground surfacing to create a comfortable, durable, and inviting outdoor area. The hip shade provides reliable coverage and sun protection while maintaining an attractive, open design that complements the school environment. The artificial turf delivers a clean, consistent playing surface with improved usability and reduced maintenance. Together, these features enhance safety and comfort for students and staff.
